Comparing Beis Backpacks

comparing three beis backpacks, including the backpack in black, the cargo backpack in maple, and the expandable backpack in beige

We are huge fans of Beis here at It’s the Kellys. Lauren has reviewed several items on our YouTube channel, especially travel essential items. We have always received a ton of requests to compare their bags against each other, and today’s request was exactly that.

Beis has three backpacks on their website, and we have reviewed all three. Today I am going to show you all 3 of them, and compare them.

Lets introduce them, shall we?

the backpack from Beis in black

This is “The Backpack” from Beis. It comes in 2 colors (black and beige) and it is $78. I have used it the most out of all of these other backpacks. It was my ultimate personal item for a while, in addition to my carry on luggage.

The dimensions are: 19” tall,  13” wide, and 5.5” deep. It has the capacity to hold 22 liters. (48 x 33 x 13.9 cm)

The backpack is great as a personal item, or a daytrip backpack, or even to use for work or school. The material is a cotton canvas, and the faux leather details are very chic.

On the outside, there is a front zip organized pocket for essentials, a water bottle pocket on each side, a top handle, padded straps, and a trolley passthrough strap. To open it, there are two zippers that come all the way down, to expose a clamshell opening.

Once inside, you can see the two large zippered pockets (one mesh, one plastic), and a 4 point elastic compression harness.

There is also a separate padded laptop sleeve, that can hold a 13-15” laptop.

My favorite part of this bag has been the clamshell opening, and large zippered pockets on the inside. Organization is key during a long flight, and this bag shines in this department.

Of course, all Beis items have the trolley passthrough, which make traveling a breeze, as you can set the bag over the handles of your luggage.

the expandable backpack from Beis, in beige, part of the Beis recycled collection

Now lets look into The expandable backpack, which is part of the recycled collection from late 2022, which means it is made out of recycled plastic water bottles.

I have traveled with this bag twice. I brought it to Guyana, and my friend Kristen borrowed it for our Australia trip. I use this a lot for day trips as well, or even running errands. I have to admit, it was my official bag for my son’s football season last year, holding my ger, come rain or shine.

It comes in 2 colors, Beis’ signature black and beige, and is $88. This backpack often is sold out, so if you want it, and its available, you better snag it right away.

The dimension are 15” tall, 13” wide, and has a depth of  5.9 inches, or 7.8 inches when expanded. (38 x 33 x 15-20 cm) It has a capacity of 13.5-17  liters.

On the outside, there are two pockets. One is large, and one is small. There is a key leash inside one of them, and slip pockets for organization in the other. There are two top handles, which can be snapped together for an easier grab, or separated to open. The adjustable straps are padded, and of course, there is a signature trolley passthrough. There is also a separate laptop pocket for 13 and 15” laptops.

The unique feature on this backpack is their waterbottle holder. It is hidden and can be on the inside or outside, depending on your preference.

Speaking of the inside, you have two large pockets, similar to the backpack previously mentioned, and two large slip pockets.

The expandable gusset can give you an extra two inches of depth, making this a great bag for travel, or everyday use.

the cargo backpack from Beis, in maple, part of the Beis Air collection

The third and final backpack we are going to talk about is The cargo backpack, which is the newest. It is from the Beis Air Collection. I used this on my most recent trip to Australia, as a personal item on Delta.

It comes in 3 colors, including Black, Beige, and Beis’ yummy maple color. It retails for $98.

It is 16.14” tall, 13” wide, and 8.2 deep. (41 x 33 x 21 cm) and Has a capacity of 23.5 liters.

What is unique about this backpack, and this collection is it’s material. It’s trendy, puffy fabric is what makes this backpack stand out among others, and despite it looking fragile, it has held up nicely.

Another unique feature is the drawstring and flap closure, with it’s metal buckle. The drawstring helps open the bag very wide, to stuff things in, or take things out with ease.

On the outside is a zippered pocket, complete with a key leash. There a water bottle pocket on each side, whether you use it for water, or other items.

On the back is the Beis signature trolley sleeve, and this one actually zips underneath to become a pocket. Having your trolley sleeve become a pocket is wonderful when it is not attached to your luggage.

There is a top handle, and padded adjustable straps, of course.

On the interior, there is a 13-15” laptop sleeve with a Velcro strap, a zippered pocket, and 2 cinched slip pockets.

three Beis backpacks, fully packed to compare the size

Here are the three backpacks, side by side, and fully packed.

The backpack is the tallest, followed by the cargo, and then the expandable. They are all the same width. When it comes to the depth, the backpack and is the most slim, followed by the expandable, and then the cargo.

Here is a chart to compare them all.

I used The Backpack for several trips. It was great, until the zipper broke in Belgium. It’s still my favorite backpack from Beis, because of the space and features, but perhaps packing it too full was its downfall.

Beis expandable backpack in Guyana

I used the Expandbale Backpack in Guyana this year, and let my friend use it when we traveled to Australia the month after. Even though it’s beige, it has stayed clean! Since its a little bit smaller, it’s not my go-to backpack, but I do love it for events, such as my son’s football games.

Now, the cargo bag is my newest Beis item. I am very impressed with the room this baby has. You could definitely use it as a personal item, and I did exactly that when I flew with it to Australia. It has a ton of room, and the cinched top is great, especially if you’re worried about zippers.

Which Beis backpack do you love the most? Let me know!
